Klose ruled out for up to two months

Lazio striker Miroslav Klose could face up to two months on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in his side's 3-2 defeat to Genoa on Saturday.

Klose, 34, was substituted at half-time in the match and suffered a "severe lesion" in his right knee, meaning he will be out of action for "seven to eight weeks".

The German international has been withdrawn from his country's friendly against France, adding to coach Joachim Loew's woes following injuries to Bastian Schweinsteiger as well as Borussia Dortmund duo Ilkay Gundogan and Marcel Schmelzer.

A statement from Lazio said Klose returned to Germany for an assessment but will undergo rehabilitation in Italy.

"This morning Miroslav Klose was visited by Professor Muller Wohlfahrt in Germany, his own doctor, who diagnosed a severe lesion of the external collateral ligament in his right knee," it read. "The player will return to Italy either tomorrow or on Wednesday and start the protocol prescribed by the German specialist. The estimated recovery time is about seven to eight weeks."
