Dortmund edge Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund jumped ahead of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga table after a thrilling encounter at the BayArena

Borussia Dortmund blew a two-goal lead but hit back to win 3-2 at Bayer Leverkusen and climb up to second place in the Bundesliga, trying to catch runaway leaders Bayern Munich.

• Sat: Bayern batter Mainz

Marco Reus gave Dortmund the lead after three minutes and Jakub Blaszczykowski doubled the advantage in the ninth minute from the spot. Stefan Reinartz scored a brace in the 58th and 62nd minutes to equalise only to see Robert Lewandowski make it 3-2 seconds later.

Blaszczykowski saw his second penalty attempt stopped in the 70th minute but Dortmund held on for the victory, their fourth in a row but they continue to trail Bayern by 12 points. Leverkusen suffered their first Bundesliga loss at home this season as they dropped down to third.

Nurnberg claimed their first victory under new coach Michael Wiesinger at the expense of Borussia Monchengladbach to move further clear of the relegation zone.

Timmy Simons gave the hosts the lead after four minutes from a penalty and Tomas Pekhart made it 2-0 in the 30th minute. Patrick Herrmann replied for Gladbach after 58 minutes but it finished 2-1 to the home side.

Nurnberg took the lead inside five minutes from the penalty spot as Simons struck low and hard down the middle of the goal after Thorben Marx was adjudged to have hauled down Mike Frantz inside the box.

Wiesinger's men doubled the advantage on the half-hour as Marx's pass was intercepted and Kiyotake found Pekhart on the left side and he struck a fine effort into the opposite corner.

The visitors did get on the scoreboard just before the hour as Tony Jantschk's long ball was flicked on by Luuk de Jong and Herrmann latched on before blasting beyond Schafer and into the left corner.
