Robben hits back at critics

Bayern Munich's under-fire winger Arjen Robben says his commitment is not in doubt after it was questioned by general manager Matthias Sammer.

Robben, 29, has endured a frustrating season at Bayern this term, having made only six Bundesliga appearances due to injury.

Matters were only made worse for the Netherlands international when Sammer recently hit out at both Robben and team-mate Mario Gomez, claiming their egos needed to be kept under control.

However, Robben hit back at his detractors on Thursday, stating that he will always give his best to the club, despite what some people may think.

"I am a pro and always give 100% in training," he said. "When I am brought on, when I play, I will give it all for the club and the team. That is not in question at all."

Despite now being match fit, Robben has lost his place in the Bayern team to Thomas Muller, who has moved to the wing, with Toni Kroos taking the central-midfield position.

The former Chelsea man, though, says he only wants what is best for the team, and is happy to wait for his chance when the opportunity comes.

"It is about the success of the team and about nothing else," Robben said. "We want to win titles, that is what matters. We all have to work hard and keep fighting. I will certainly do my share.

"I have always been there when I came back from injuries. It is not always easy. When you play your first game or when you start for the first time, you are not in world class form. You need to find your rhythm again. After all I am only human. I hope the boss gives me a chance in the near future."

Elsewhere, Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that the club are likely to increase last season's record turnover of €373 million.

German media are reporting that the club's income for the first six months of the current business year, which ends on June 30, already covers their business expenses.

"This year business is even better," Rummenigge told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Bayern have made €57.4 million on merchandise sales and have reportedly added another €10 million to the €85 million in sponsorship income from last year.

With the impending arrival of Pep Guardiola in the summer, the interest in the club will only increase.

"That he [Guardiola] has chosen us is a sign the cards are being reshuffled," Rummenigge said.
