Zarate hits out at Lazio chief

Mauro Zarate has accused Lazio president Claudio Lotito of sabotaging his move to Dynamo Kiev after the transfer fell through on Thursday.

Zarate, 25, was widely expected to join the Ukrainian club ahead of the deadline and an €8 million fee had been agreed between the two parties.

However, the former Birmingham City man blames Lotito for the breakdown in negotiations after the Lazio chief asked Kiev for a higher transfer fee.

“Problems with the clause?” Zarate said on Twitter. “Inventions made by Lotito and I must stay here for a year because of his decision.

“There is no problem with the clause! These are things invented by your president! He asks for one thing, it is accepted and then he asks for more.

“I see that he wants me to stay here for a year and a half. People I must stay!!! It is not my decision. It is the president’s!!!”

Zarate has made just one appearance this season, failing to make any impression on manager Vladimir Petkovic.

La Gazzetta dello Sport believe he may still leave the side, though, as the window for clubs in Ukraine does not close until February 15.
