Olimpia and Tolima in to group stage

Paraguayan side Olimpia made it into the Copa Libertadores group stage thanks to a convincing 2-0 win over Uruguay's Defensor Sporting.

The win, following a goalless draw in the first leg, means three-time Libertadores champions Olimpia go into Group Seven alongside Deportivo Lara of Venezuela, Argentinian side Newell's Old Boys and Universidad de Chile.

Olimpia opened well and could have taken the lead on a number of occasions but for some good saves from Sporting keeper Yonatan Irrazabal.

In the 34th minute, one of Olimpia's recent signings, Juan-Carlos Ferreyra, put El Decano ahead with a header.

Fifteen minutes after the interval, Eduardo Aranda tried his luck from 35 yards and scored with a shot which was past Irrazabal before he had chance to react.

Midfielder Alejandro Silva told Fox Sports Olimpia: "I'm very happy for winning this tie, but now we must keep on working hard.

"It was a difficult position because it was a knockout tie but the team is in good form."

Meanwhile in Peru, Colombia's Tolima claimed a last-gasp goal to draw 1-1 with hosts Universidad Cesar Vallejo and progress to the next round.

Tolima had won 1-0 in the first leg but Ronald Quinteros levelled the tie with a 44th-minute goal following a Pedro Requena assist on the right.

Minutes earlier, Tolima keeper Antony Silva had saved a penalty from Cesar Vallejo forward Daniel Chavez.

That penalty could have been crucial for Victor Rivera's side, but with only four minutes to go, Charles Monsalvo came off the bench to level on the night for Tolima.

Now Tolima go into Group Six alongside compatriots Santa Fe, Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno and Peruvian league runners-up Real Garcilaso.
