Tottenham's Gomes on loan at Hoffenheim

Hoffenheim have signed Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes on loan to replace the troubled Tim Wiese.

Heurelho Gomes is yet to play in the Premier League for Tottenham this season

Spurs have confirmed that Gomes will join the Bundesliga club until the end of the season. The Brazil international has found himself behind Hugo Lloris, Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini in the White Hart Lane pecking order.

Hoffenheim general manager Andreas Muller said: "In Heurelho Gomes, we have signed a keeper who has a lot of experience at the highest level, both national and international. He will play his part in keeping TSG up – I am convinced of that."

Wiese has struggled for form since joining Hoffenheim on a free transfer in the summer and has seen his lost both his fist team place and the captaincy.

The former Werder Bremen man has faced ridicule from Hoffenheim supporters, who have hit out at his performances and his previous claims that he wanted to join a Champions League side.

Hoffenheim manager Marco Kurz confirmed that Wiese was now surplus to requirements at the club.

“Andreas [Muller, the club’s general manager] and I have come to the decision that we have a great duty of care for the person Tim Wiese and for our club and, at the same time, the big goal of staying in the league,” Kurz said.

“That is why it is no secret we are looking for alternatives in goal, because I want to relieve the immense pressure on the player - he cannot handle the situation.

“That is why we have decided to look for an alternative to help us on our mission to stay up.”
