Canaries sign striker Kei Kamara on loan

Norwich City have signed striker Kei Kamara on loan from MLS club Kansas City until the end of the season after he received international clearance.

Kamara has scored 31 goals for Kansas City

The move for Kamara, 28, has been agreed with the MLS, and the Sierra Leone international was handed his work permit on Monday.

Norwich manager Chris Hughton, whose side are on a poor run of form and were dumped out of the FA Cup at home to non-league Luton at the weekend, has been looking to boost the Canaries’ goalscoring options.

Grant Holt, who struck 15 league goals last season, has only four this time around, and Hughton said he hoped the arrival of Kamara would help increase Norwich’s potency.

He told the club's official website: “I'm delighted to bring Kei to the football club. He has been one of Major League Soccer’s best players over the last few seasons.

“There is no doubt it is a big jump to make into the Premier League, but it is an exciting challenge both for him and us here at the club to prove his talent.

“Kei also adds some valuable competition upfront alongside the current striking options we have here at the club.”

Kamara moved to America as a teenager and began his football career in California with Orange County Blue Star before joining Columbus Crew in 2006.

He also played for Houston Dynamo before moving to Sporting Kansas City, for whom he has hit 31 goals in 98 appearances.
