Williams wants Graham stay

Swansea City captain Ashley Williams has reiterated his desire for striker Danny Graham to remain at the club, amid speculation linking him with a move to Sunderland.

Danny Graham's future remains unclear

- Swansea: Graham has not asked to leave

Graham, 27, joined the Swans in 2011 from Watford for £3.5 million, but has struggled for game time this season due to the impressive form of Michu.

With Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill believed to be a keen admirer of the former Middlesbrough man, Graham is understood to want to return to the North East for personal reasons.

While Williams is desperate for the striker to stay, he concedes that Graham must do what is best for himself.

“I said that last week in the press, we want him to stay, he’s a good player and a bonus for us,” Williams said. “He’s great around the place and we want him to stay but obviously he’s got to go and do what he feels right for him and his family and his career.”

Those sentiments were echoed by manager Michael Laudrup, who confirmed that while bids had been received for Graham, none had met the club’s valuation of the player.

“I can only say Danny is a player who is here and we want him to stay, we don’t want change,” Laudrup said. “Of course I can understand if he wants to play regularly, but there are nine or ten others like him in our squad.

“The other part is that even if a player says he wants to leave, then it’s still down to the clubs involved to agree a fee. I don’t want players who are unhappy or have a good chance to go somewhere else, but there’s still the economic part. I don’t want to talk about who has bid what for Danny. All I will say is that there have been bids and they have not been enough.”

Meanwhile, O’Neill has confirmed his intention to add striking recruits to his squad before February 1, revealing that a number of bids have already been made.

“Naturally, I’m hopeful of getting someone in, but until a player has been signed and sealed I don’t think you can really talk about it,” O’Neill said.

“We’ve made some bids for players, we didn’t make them overnight we made them some time ago. Of course it is the prerogative of the team we put these bids in to either accept or not accept as the case may be. There may be a host of signings in the next 48 hours but there’s every possibility. I’m hopeful that we might be able to do something.”
