Transfer Rater: Cavani to Real Madrid

Fener in talks over re-signing Emre

Turkey midfielder Emre Belozoglu appears close to a return to Fenerbahce after spending six unsuccessful months in La Liga with Atletico Madrid.

A recent racism scandal involving Emre has seen European football's scrutinous eyes return their focus to Turkey
Emre is reportedly set to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with Fener

Spanish daily AS reported on Wednesday that Fenerbahce had already announced their former captain was returning on a free transfer, but Atletico denied an agreement had yet been reached.

However, the Turkish club have now issued a statement confirming that they are in talks with Emre.

"Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of Atletico Madrid footballer Emre Belozoglu," the statement read.

According to reports from Turkish news agency Dogan, Fenerbahce expect to re-sign Emre, 32, on a two-and-a-half-year contract and, although he reportedly quit the club last summer after falling out with manager Aykut Kocaman, that issue appears to have passed.

The former Newcastle and Inter Milan player joined Atletico for free last summer on a two-year contract.

He has made just 11 starts for Los Colchoneros this season, seven of these coming in either the Copa del Rey or Europa League. His most recent was in central midfield as Atletico were beaten 3-0 at Athletic Bilbao last weekend.
