Brady to leave Arsenal role next year

Arsenal have announced that the head of their youth academy, Liam Brady, will leave his role in May 2014.

Brady starred for the Gunners as a midfielder for nine years between 1971-1980, making 307 appearances and scoring 59 goals.

The Irishman, 56, was appointed as the club's academy chief in 1996 and has helped oversee the development of the likes of Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs.

Brady, who has recently assisted Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni, will step down from his current position at Emirates Stadium next year

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said on the club's official website: "Liam has a deep understanding of what it takes to discover and develop a talented youngster into someone who can perform at the highest level.

"He has made a massive contribution to Arsenal football club. It will be difficult to find a worthy successor but we will be looking for someone who can build on what Liam and his team have created."
