Glory's Ferguson on good terms with Sage

Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson is adamant he still has the full support of owner Tony Sage despite the club's worrying slide down the A-League table.

Glory have slipped to ninth on the 10-team ladder following a six-game winless run, but remain just two points adrift of sixth spot.

Ferguson signed a two-year contract extension after guiding Perth to the grand final last season.

And the former Rangers star says he's not feeling the pressure just yet, despite the growing angst from Glory fans.

"At the end of the day, it's how the owner's feeling - whether he wants to make changes or not," Ferguson said on Wednesday.

"But I'm feeling pretty comfortable with Tony. Tony's been very positive and supportive.

"I don't know if that's a good thing. They say having support from the board normally puts you out the door.

"But I'm comfortable with where I'm at with Tony.

"I know I'm in the firing line and if results don't go my way, I'm probably the first one to get his head chopped off. That's the nature of the business.

"But (Sage) can see we're playing decent football.

"We stay in touch two or three times a week."

Perth will again be without star striker Shane Smeltz (groin) and skipper Jacob Burns (back) for Saturday night's crucial clash with last-placed Wellington at Eden Park.

But the return of defender Josh Risdon, midfielder Liam Miller and utility Dean Heffernan is a welcome boost.

All nine of Perth's losses this season have been a single goal, and Ferguson said his team deserved to be higher up on the table.

"I still believe this squad is good enough to get into the finals," Ferguson said.

"They are playing decent stuff. It's just that final third that's letting us down.

"We have been beaten by the odd goal nine times now. It's not like we're getting smashed 3-0 or 4-0 every week.

"There's a lot of disgruntled fans at the moment, but please stick with us. We had this last year and we got through it with their help and support. Let's do the same again."

Ferguson said the club was hoping to finalise the paperwork for Argentinian playmaker Matias Cordoba sometime next week.
