Icardi awaiting 'excellent offer'

Mauro Icardi's agent has told Inter Milan that they must "make an excellent offer" to Sampdoria if they wish to sign the striker.

Icardi, 19, caught the eye at the weekend as he scored four times in the Genoa based club's 6-0 rout of Pescara which led to him being linked with both the Nerazzurri and Roma by the Italian media.

He joined Sampdoria two years ago for a mere €400,000 after progressing at the Barcelona youth system, which he moved to back in 2008, and has netted seven goals in ten starts this season.

Two of those strikes came in his side's shock victory over champions Juventus earlier this month and his representative, Abian Morano, told Il Sussidario that anyone wishing to secure his client will need to make a serious approach to his current club.

He said: "If, as suggested, Inter really want to sign the player. Then they will have to go Sampdoria and make them an excellent offer before they can talk to us.

"We will have to evaluate his situation at the end of the season though because there are certainly big clubs looking at him. The league in Italy suits Mauro better than the Spanish one because there is too much emphasis on possession there."

There is also uncertainty around Icardi's international future as, despite representing Argentina at Under-20 level, he has refused to commit to either them or Italy after becoming eligible to represent the Azzurri.

Coach Cesare Prandelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport he had spoken to the youngster but when asked about it recently, the player was non-committal. "I am Argentine, but I take pleasure from Prandelli’s compliments. You never know," he told Sky Italia.
