Stoke's Shea swoop back on

Tony Pulis expects to freshen up his squad in the last couple of days of the January transfer window, with Brek Shea's move to the Britannia Stadium back on.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis wants more new signings than just Brek Shea

The FC Dallas midfielder travelled to England on Monday night and is expected to have a medical with the Premier League club on Tuesday - after a deal worth around £2.5 million was agreed between the two clubs and the MLS.

Just days after Stoke manager Pulis stated the deal looked as if it would have to wait until the summer, fresh negotiations appear to have reached a compromise.

The 22-year-old will have to prove he is fully recovered from major foot surgery last year before the deal is completed, but Pulis wants to inject new blood into his squad to prevent their season falling flat.

Stoke have lost their last three games ahead of the fixture against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night and Pulis confirmed he intends to be active in bringing in new players.

"It will hopefully be a busy couple of days in the transfer market. There are weaknesses. We tried to address those last summer and for whatever reason we came up short in one or two positions," he said.

"We recognise we have to improve and a team always benefits from a freshening up. We didn't do anything in the last January window, but fingers crossed we can get something done this time."

Stoke's exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday leaves Pulis to concentrate on securing a sixth successive season in the Premier League.

And he wants to reach the safety target of 40 points as quickly as possible during the remaining 15 games and is aiming for a top ten finish for the first time.

"You take nothing for granted in this league. We want to get to 40 points as soon as possible and then see where we can get to from there," he said.

"Anyone falling into the trap of thinking the hard work is already done is fooling themselves and putting this club's status at risk."
