Cahill: Benitez sparked Blues' Cup revival

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill says a half-time rallying call from Rafa Benitez helped Chelsea salvage an FA Cup fourth round draw away to League One Brentford.

The disjointed Blues had trailed 1-0 at the interval and, although they also went 2-1 down after the break, a fine goal from Fernando Torres earned a replay.

"There were a few words said in the dressing room from Rafa and then between the players themselves at half-time because everyone knew we were below par," Cahill told reporters.

"Obviously we wanted the win, but at least we have taken it back to the Bridge and hopefully we can finish the job there.

"There is a lot of pressure from the fans, but we just needed to just try to do the job. Everyone was aware how important the game was.

"It wasn't a great game for us. In the end, it was really a case of grafting and digging in for a result, and it is pleasing to do that after coming from behind twice. Credit to Brentford because they worked hard and put us under pressure."

Chelsea fans chanted: "You don't know what you're doing at Benitez as he made second-half substitutions, but Cahill leapt to the defence of his boss and said the players would not be affected by supporters' discontent with the coach.

And he said Cup-holders Chelsea were eyeing more glory at Wembley in May, adding: "The goal in the competition is to get to the final - if we can get to Wembley in the end, then days like this will be just a memory."
