Pressure increasing on Zeman

Roma are seriously considering the future of Zdenek Zeman with Walter Sabatini admitting "it's time to start asking ourselves some questions".

The Czech coach returned to the Italian capital in the summer and has won just ten of the 22 league games this term. At the weekend they drew 3-3 with Bologna after twice leading, meaning they have now thrown away 18 points from winning positions in the current campaign.

The side did record a 2-1 first leg win in their Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter last Wednesday but the strained relationship between Zeman and several key players - notably Maarten Stekelenburg and Daniele De Rossi - has been a growing concern.

A spat between the goalkeeper and coach raised the issue of discipline within the squad and that appears to be the biggest worry for club management. "Zeman's work is satisfying under certain aspects but it is clear that there are less positive things," sporting director Sabatini said on Monday.

"It's time to start asking ourselves some questions and, amongst the considerations, we'll also think about a change of coach, even if only marginally. We've left Zeman to work and he's had courage to understand the potential of a lot of players, like Erik Lamela and others.

"Zeman euphorically accepted the offer to coach Roma and we chose him thinking that he would get his desire to play football into the heads of the players."
