Kompany sidelined for at least two weeks

Manchester City are set to be without captain Vincent Kompany for at least a fortnight after he picked up a calf injury in the club's 1-0 FA Cup win over Stoke.

• Blog: Iron Man made for Luton

Kompany, 26, limped off injured at the Britannia on Saturday and is now likely to miss Tuesday's trip to Queens Park Rangers and Sunday's home game against Liverpool, while he could also sit out the game at Southampton on February 9.

"It could be a fortnight, it could be three weeks. We'll know more this morning [Monday]," first-team coach David Platt said. "My experience of calf strains would be no chance for tomorrow, Liverpool a big doubt with an outside chance, but that would depend on the gravity of it. In all honesty you're probably looking at the game after that [Southampton] being a potential realistic target."

The injury comes at a bad time for City, who are currently short of options at the back. Kolo Toure is playing for Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations, while Matija Nastasic, who has been Kompany's regular partner this season, missed the Stoke game with a slight knock, and Micah Richards is not expected to be fit until the end of February.

When asked if Nastasic would be available for the Loftus Road clash, Platt said: "Maybe, but he will have to train today."

After Kompany went off at Stoke, City manager Roberto Mancini first switched to a back three, with full-backs Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta flanking Joleon Lescott, before then moving midfielder Javi Garcia back to partner the England international.

Mario Balotelli and Samir Nasri will be back in contention for City after both missed the Stoke games with a virus.

Maicon has also resumed training but is unlikely to be involved.
