West Brom not looking to sell Odemwingie

West Bromwich Albion sporting and technical director Richard Garlick has warned Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp to forget about trying to sign Peter Odemwingie and Jonas Olsson during the January transfer window.

Peter Odemwingie hasn't made a start since West Brom's 2-0 loss to Manchester United in December
QPR want Peter Odemwingie to bolster their frontline

Garlick, who has only just arrived at the club, insists West Brom will not be selling any of their major assets this month - despite Odemwingie's apparent desire to talk to QPR.

The west London club have also had a £5 million offer rejected for Sweden international Olsson and Garlick, who was appointed successor to Dan Ashworth, expects little significant business to be done before next week's deadline.

Garlick's role is still at the handover stage, with Ashworth helping him settle into his new post before leaving to take up the director of elite development role with the Football Association at St George's Park.

Newcastle United have also expressed an interest in Odemwingie, who has 18 months of his contract with West Brom still to run, but Garlick is already planning for the summer.

“Every summer has been touted as being defining. Last summer there were players supposedly leaving but we kept hold of most of them. We don’t have to sell any of our players, it’s only on our terms," Garlick said.

“We’re very happy with the squad and there are no immediate plans to bring anyone in. If an opportunity presents itself then we will look at that but we’re looking more towards the summer.

“It’s well documented about Peter. We had an offer and we don’t intend to sell any of our players. When an offer comes in we speak to the player out of courtesy. We’ve had that chat with Peter and he knows the situation.

“As for this summer, we have already had talks about the types of positions and what we want to do with the squad. That’s been formulated for a while.”

Ashworth has helped mould a successful transfer policy during his eight years at the club and Garlick has no intention of moving away from the model he has inherited, adding: “The model we’ve had has been successful."
