Michu signs long-term contract

Michu has given Swansea a boost ahead of their Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea by signing a new four-year contract.

Michu is yet to win his first senior international cap for Sapin
Michu has taken the Premier League by storm since his arrival from Spain last summer.

The Spaniard, 26, has been a sensation since signing from Rayo Vallecano in the summer for £2.2 million, scoring 16 goals in 28 appearances and helping Michael Laudrup’s side to ninth in the Premier League.

And his decision to commit his future to the club will be seen as another important stride forward by the club who stand on the brink of reaching a major cup final for the first time in their history on Wednesday night.

“It was an easy decision for me,” Michu told the club’s official website. “I am living a dream here at Swansea.

“I’m probably enjoying my football more than ever. It’s easy to play with this team and (on Wednesday night) I have the chance to reach the first final of my career.

“I’m really happy here in the city with the people, the club and the fans. Everyone has been so nice to me since I arrived.

“I think the club are happy with me because they have given me a new contract. I am certainly happy with the club.”

Michu’s form has also caught the eye of plenty of Swansea’s rivals in the Premier League but by signing a long-term extension until 2016 he has attempted to put an end to speculation regarding his future.

“I’m happy here,” he said. “I’ve read and listened to all the speculation, but it doesn’t interest me, and that's why I've signed a new contract.

"I’m enjoying myself too much because the team always tries to play football. All I think about is the next game and helping Swansea be successful. This is my life."
