Hamburg want permanent Bruma deal

Jeffrey Bruma has revealed Hamburg are now attempting to make his loan from Chelsea permanent.

Jeffrey Bruma had looked set to leave Hamburg

Bruma, 21, has been on loan with Hamburg since the summer of 2011 but it had appeared in recent weeks that he may be leaving the Bundesliga side, with the Netherlands centre-back having been linked with a move to the Eredivisie.

However, fellow centre-back Michael Mancienne suffered an ankle injury during Hamburg’s 1-1 draw at Nurnberg that is set to keep him out for at least six weeks. While the club’s general director, Frank Arnesen, said Hamburg still have “one too many” centre-backs, Bruma has confirmed he is now set to remain at the Imtech Arena.

“I needed to be very patient. I hope I will be playing now and can take the chance,” Bruma told Hamburger Morgenpost on Tuesday. “Our boss and our general manager have indicated to me that I will be here for a long time to come. They want me to pen a contract for several years.”

In his 18 months with the club, Bruma has made 32 appearances for Hamburg, scoring two goals. Bruma had fallen behind Mancienne in the pecking order this season, though, and suggested he had not yet decided whether to stay on.

“I need to play to develop, but of course I am delighted that a club like Hamburg wants to keep me,” he said.
