Wolfsburg's Lopes joins Stuttgart on loan

Wolfsburg centre-back Felipe Lopes has completed his loan move to Stuttgart after passing a medical on Tuesday.

Felipe Lopes has moved to Stuttgart on loan
Lopes has agreed a six-month loan deal

Lopes, 25, joins the club on a six-month deal with an option for a permanent transfer, the club has confirmed.

He joined Wolfsburg in January 2012, but despite making 13 appearances in his first half season in the Bundesliga has since lost his place in the team.

“Stuttgart can go a long way this season,” Lopes said. “I want to help them to reach their goals.”

Stuttgart general manager Fredi Bobic added: "We succeeded in winning a player for VfB Stuttgart who already knows Bundesliga football. Besides the league we still have good chances in the cup and Europa League. It is therefore important to have alternatives. We are convinced Felipe Lopes can help us reach our goals."

Stuttgart boss Bruno Labbadia was the driving force behind the switch, Stuttgarter Zeitung reported.

The Felipe transfer casts doubt on the future of 19-year-old Germany Under-21 international Antonio Rudiger at the club.

He is under contract until 2014 but could consider a transfer and his agent, Uli Ferber, wants Stuttgart to cancel his deal to enable him to move, Stuttgarter Zeitung said.

The paper also reported that former Germany international Serdar Tasci, 25, could leave the club at the end of the season. The Stuttgart skipper is under contract until 2014, and is said to be interesting Southampton.

Stuttgart are currently tenth in the Bundesliga, only two points off the European places, and take on leaders Bayern Munich at home on Sunday.
