Van Buyten: I'll end my career with Bayern

Bayern Munich centre-back Daniel van Buyten has said he wants to end his career with the Bavarian club.

Van Buyten, 34, has started only two Bundesliga games for Bayern this season, but was preferred to Germany international Jerome Boateng for Bayern's 2-0 win over Greuther Furth.

"[Playing in] every match is an aim for me," the Belgium international told kicker. "I am ready, mentally and physically. The rest is up to the boss."

After Holger Badstuber tore cruciate ligaments in early December, Van Buyten and Boateng competed for a centre-back position alongside Dante.

Boateng led that race in December, but several mistakes and his red card in Champions League appear to have turned the situation around.

Van Buyten is under contract until the end of the season, but said he hoped to extend his stay. "Bayern are one of the best clubs in the world," he added.

"When I signed, I was proud to be here and it has not changed since. I would love to end my career here."

He said he did not believe the recent signing of Mainz defender Jan Kirchhoff would scupper his chances of first team football, explaining: "I don't think the transfer will end my time here.

"He is a young player, who was signed for the future of the club. He will certainly need time to settle in. I have been here for seven years and know how things work here.

Since joining Bayern from Hamburg in 2006, Van Buyten has made 136 Bundesliga appearances and scored 19 goals. He has also played in 40 Champions League games and 20 German Cup matches.
