Clarence Goodson staying in Denmark
United States defender Clarence Goodson rejected a move to Turkey's Orduspor and will return to Brondby in Denmark, according to reports.
Goodson said he visited with Orduspor officials in Istanbul, but they didn't want to take him to the club's stadium or its home city of Ordu.
"We were in a situation where we could not be further apart," Goodson told Denmark's Sporten.dk, as translated by The Sporting News.
Media outlets in Turkey were reporting that talks fell through because Goodson, a devout Christian, refused to move to a Muslim country, Sporten.dk reported, but Goodson denied those claims.
"It's easy to save face by blaming me and attributing it to religious reasons, which is completely wrong," Goodson said. "Nothing could be further from the truth. We are both open people and religion will never keep us from moving to one country or another."
Goodson is the captain of Brondby, which is in last place and faces relegation from the Danish Superliga.
Last week, American midfielder Maurice Edu completed a loan move to Turkish club Bursaspor.
