QPR's Derry agrees contract extension

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry has agreed a one-year extension to his Loftus Road contract.

Derry, 35, has been central to Rangers' recent revival, producing a string of tenacious performances as the Londoners have begun to pick up points under Harry Redknapp.

He had often been sidelined by previous Rs manager Mark Hughes, but has now agreed to stay at Loftus Road until next summer.

"I'm absolutely delighted," he told the club's official website. "It's changing times once again with Harry coming in, and I find myself playing more now than I did under Mark Hughes.

"I'm just so delighted to commit myself to the club for another year - I'm enjoying my football more than ever.

"Now I'm back in the side and I'm appreciated by the fans as much as I have been since I arrived here, and that means so much. It feels like home here."

Derry paid tribute to the influence of Redknapp, saying the former Tottenham boss had "got everyone believing again".

"There's a togetherness about us now," he added. "We're all coming together at the moment. We're showing that togetherness that is required."

Derry is nine games away from clocking up a century of appearances for QPR, and said: "I'm determined to hit that landmark figure. That will be a fantastic achievement."
