Allegri: Milan may miss out on UCL

Massimiliano Allegri has said it "could be Milan's turn" to miss out on Champions League qualification as the club looks to rebuild for the future.

The 45-year-old Rossoneri coach was speaking to Sky Italia after seeing his side record a 2-1 victory over Bologna on Sunday.

But they remain nine points behind third-placed Lazio and are dark horses to claim the final Champions League qualification spot.

Allegri said: "Many clubs have missed out on the Champions League in recent years, so it could be our turn - but we are targeting more long-term prospects.

"There are many teams in this race, and we will try our best. Our objective is to end the season on an upward swing. Unfortunately, when making so many changes to a squad, you must expect this sort of situation."

He said he was pleased with the way his team had played, but warned: "Clearly we've got to finish off games - instead, we risked throwing it away at the end.

"We can only grow by playing and learning. We've got to improve, as we cannot dominate a match to this degree only to risk compromising it with moments of naivety. It would have been tough to swallow a draw this afternoon."

Overall, it was a good weekend for sixth-placed Milan as, of the five teams above them, only Juventus took all three points.
