Pulis pondering Brek Shea swoop

Tony Pulis will decide at the end of the week whether to press ahead with plans to pay £2 million for USA international Brek Shea.

Brek Shea has been tipped for the top
Shea has been strongly linked with a move to England

The Stoke City manager is considering another move into the American market after the successful signing of Geoff Cameron in the summer and has invited Shea to spend a week with training with the club.

Pulis is also considering setting up a friendly this week to give the left-sided midfielder a game at the Britannia Stadium - before he considers concluding a deal with FC Dallas for the 22-year-old.

Shea was on the radar of Arsenal and Fulham over a year ago, but is currently recovering from a major foot operation and needs to prove his fitness.

Pulis has been aware of Shea for some time and said: "About a year ago he was being touted as the next great thing in America, but fell off the rails a bit.

"I watched him play in France a year ago for America, so this is another chance to have a look at him."

Shea had a similar trial at Arsenal 14 months ago, but an operation to have a bone removed from his right foot has held up his progress and chances of making it into the Premier League.

The player is represented by Potteries-based solicitors Beswicks and their former employee, Mark Cartwright, was recently appointed as head of Stoke's scouting network.

Pulis was recently asked by chairman Peter Coates to trim his squad, before adding any new players in the January window, but has become a fan of the value for money available in the American market.

Cameron has made a huge impact and become his first choice right back, since his arrival in the summer and Pulis has been impressed with the levels of fitness and professionalism in the US game.
