Cole: I feel 21 again

Joe Cole says he feels he has returned to the days of his youth as he continues to enjoy a new lease of life at old club West Ham United.

Despite a difficult last three years, the midfielder scored his first goal for the club in a decade on Saturday, to secure a 1-1 draw against QPR and only emphasise his improving form.

Cole was also influential in West Ham's 2-2 FA Cup draw with Manchester United and the increasing impression is of a player reborn.

"I don't think about age," Cole said. "I still feel 21. I just want to play football and enjoy myself.

"It's always nice to score a goal. I'm enjoying my football, feel I'm getting stronger. You need to get match-hardened. You can do as much training in the world but you need games. I feel I'm getting a bit stronger ever game and it's nice to be affecting the game."

Cole also stated, though, that the training ground is helping in another way.

"Plenty of memories [here], more so at the training ground because that's your bread and butter, that's where I was since I was an 11-year-old. I can remember goals I scored when I was under-11 over there on a Sunday morning.

"There are a lot of memories, there are still a few people around and it's nice to be back here. I just want to continue performing and try to help the club move on," he explained.
