Salgado feels Jose must diffuse tension

Former Real Madrid star Michel Salgado believes Jose Mourinho has problems with the whole dressing room and must act quickly to get the club's season back on track.

There have been numerous stories of friction behind the scenes at the Bernabeu of late, with Mourinho's decision to drop Iker Casillas prompting a raft of stories about the coach's relationship with his captain.

More recently, Raul Albiol moved to play down talk of a rift between Mourinho and compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, saying the pair merely "exchanged their opinions" after the victory over Valencia this week.

Speaking in Dubai, Salgado - who played for Madrid between 1999 and 2009 - told Russia's Sport Express newspaper that he believes Mourinho must move to defuse the tension.

"I don't think that there is a rift specifically with Casillas but rather with the whole dressing room," Salgado said. "I think that, in this situation, Mourinho has to make the first move, hold a meeting with everyone to discuss all the issues that are causing problems and find a compromise."

Madrid are currently 18 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, although they will have the chance to close the gap to 15 when they head to Valencia on Sunday night after the Blaugrana suffered a shock defeat against Real Sociedad.

Salgado added: "The season isn't yet lost for Real - there are still four months to go."

Meanwhile, Salgado said that, having retired from playing the game, he is now looking to get back into the sport through coaching.

"I recently gave up football and for the last six months I've been working in Dubai on local television, but I must admit I am dreaming of a return to football, this time as a coach," he said.
