Hughton confirms striker bids

Norwich manager Chris Hughton has confirmed he is hoping to sign either Danny Graham or Gary Hooper as he looks to strengthen his attack.

Celtic have rejected a bid for Hooper while Swansea are considering a bid for Graham, who is also wanted by Sunderland.

Norwich have not had a goal from a striker in their last league seven games and have only taken one point from the last six, and Hughton hopes he will be able to bring in reinforcements.

“We have put in a couple of offers for players,” he said. “As a squad, numbers-wise are okay but if there is the opportunity to add quality then we will look for that. What we have done is we have made bids for two players. They belong to other clubs and they will have the say if it goes any further.”

Hooper has scored 17 goals for Celtic this season while Graham has struck four times in his last seven games for Swansea.

Norwich were beaten 5-0 by Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday and Hughton said it was his decision to omit key defender Sebastien Bassong for fear of aggravating a calf injury.

“It was the right decision not to play him,” he added. “He was touch and go.”

Norwich went on their best run in the top flight for 24 years by going ten games unbeaten before losing five of the last six.

Hughton said: “When you are in a run like this, you appreciate more the good run we had. We are very grateful for that at the moment.”
