Redknapp eyes tight defence

Harry Redknapp may be renowned for cavalier football but it seems QPR will have to get used to a more defensive style for the rest of the season.

• Blog: Remy a sign of hope
• Redknapp: Money not factor

Redknapp insists that it would be counter-productive to change from the cautious approach that has brought four points from their last two league games and put them into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Having been embarrassed 3-0 with a more open style against Liverpool on December 30, Redknapp made the decision to rein things in for the next game against Chelsea. The defensive gameplan, however, brought their first away win in over a year before they followed up with a second, against West Brom in the cup.

As it stands, QPR are unbeaten in 2013. What's more, Redknapp believes the signing of Loic Remy will actually make that approach even more productive.

"The players have got a bit of belief in the way we've played: clean sheets and take the chances when they come. So, to open up suddenly and go, 'we're going back to this again', to open up when we hadn't won away from home for over a year til we won at Chelsea, and then we win at Chelsea and win at West Brom, to suddenly go, 'no, we're going to play like we used to play and we're going to beat every week', it would be difficult now. The system we play, we've got more of a threat now with Remy so there we go.

"That's where we've missed Andy Johnson this year, someone who's willing to run that way. We could only come towards the ball really. He [Remy] will give us something going the other way.

"I like his movement, his pace, he's quick, he can score, he'll be a threat but his movement I think is excellent. He's a fantastic runner, off the ball, coming, spinning, getting in behind people. He gives you a threat in behind people which we haven't had."
