Pardew denies Krul and Santon reports

Alan Pardew has dismissed reports linking AC Milan with Newcastle pair Davide Santon and Tim Krul, saying even an "extraordinary offer" would not tempt the Magpies into selling the players.

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi recently voiced his admiration for defender Santon, while reports in Italy had linked the Rossoneri with a €10 million bid for goalkeeper Krul.

Speaking to the Evening Chronicle, Pardew said: "No, I'm not fielding calls on that because I'm not contemplating anyone going out.

“I've not even given it the slightest thought. Even if we got an extraordinary offer, the answer would be no. There is no point ringing us. I'm confident I have an aggressive board.

"I don't do the contracts. My part in the [Loic] Remy deal was very much just comforting the player in terms of coming into what would be a strange city for him.

“The finance side I don't do, but I am as confident as I can be we are the most aggressive. We have been since I've been at the club.

“I don't think we will get to the panic scenario. That doesn't mean to say we won't do a deal for someone on the last day of the transfer window. You must always leave that open because something could trigger events."

Newcastle host Reading at the weekend in a crucial game that will also see Danny Guthrie return to St James' Park for the first time since leaving in the summer.

"It will be interesting to see what reaction I get," Guthrie said. "I did not leave United on bad terms. I am sure the fans understand the reasons why I decided to leave. It will be great to go back – it is a good game to look forward to.

"I have a lot of great memories and a lot of friends there. I am looking forward to going back there.

“Hopefully, we will pick up three points, but it will be tough. St James' Park is a great stadium and the atmosphere's always brilliant. It will be interesting to see how it feels being on the other side.”

He said he was surprised by Newcastle’s problems this season, but added: “It is the same anywhere - one or two injuries and a loss of confidence can affect any team.

"We are looking at this game as one in which we can get a result. Newcastle just are not firing on all cylinders, and we have picked up a lot in the last month or so."
