Remy keen for M'Vila to join QPR

The completion of Yann M’Vila’s protracted transfer to QPR may come down to Loic Remy’s influence after manager Harry Redknapp implied that the deal had reached an impasse.

Redknapp said he was “not sure where” the Loftus Road club are in negotiations with M’Vila, but new signing Remy said he had been trying to persuade the Rennes midfielder to come to the club.

“Yann is someone I know very well, because we played in the national team together,” Remy said. “I would like him to come here because the project is very exciting.

“We all want him here. I’ve told him how nice it is here, how nice the people are, and I think he’d be very happy. But, ultimately, it’s not for me to make decisions for his career. We need players like Yann M’Vila.”

Redknapp said: “I’m not sure where we’re at again. He’s a player that we’re interested in, along with several other clubs.

“He’s a player that I’ve always liked. I’ve watched him many, many times in the last four years. If something can be done, we’d like to have him here.”

Redknapp said the process of securing transfers had changed, with managers less involved than they used to be.

“The game’s changed,” he explained. “People don’t ring managers any more. Deals are done by the chief executive [Philip Beard] here. It’s all done at a different level now.

“There may be inquiries for some of the players. I’m sure Philip will tell me if it’s real interest. But he knows the list of players I want to move on.”

The manager said he was keen to bring in defensive cover, adding: “I’m short of central defenders here. Ryan Nelsen is going to leave us with a big hole in the team.”
