Martinez coy on Becchio

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has declined to comment on rumours that he is interested in signing Leeds striker Luciano Becchio during the January transfer window.

Luciano Becchio scored for Leeds as they beat Crystal Palace and ended their run as Championship league leaders
Luciano Becchio has already scored 19 goals for Leeds in the 2012/2013 season.

The Argentinian striker has been linked with a Premier League move this month after some commanding displays for Leeds in the Championship this season, but when asked if he was considering a bid for Becchio the Latics manager would not be drawn, saying: "I am not going to mention any names.

He continued: "We are looking for the right player, somebody that can help us. But the focus is on the players we already have here.

"I will never go into a position of mentioning names of other players that are involved with other football clubs. I don't think it is respectful. I don't like it when people do it about our players in the middle of a season and I would never do that."

Martinez also claimed he was unaware if Becchio had been present at Wigan’s FA Cup victory against Bournemouth at Dean Court on Tuesday night.

"I don't think so. If he was I didn't know about it,” he added.

Leeds manager Neil Warnock had already dismissed the reports on Wednesday, saying: "I've heard the rumours but I think he has texted [Leeds chief executive] Shaun Harvey to say he is at home. So he's obviously heard the rumours."
