Gill plays down Ronaldo link

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has refused to comment on speculation linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a return to the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be back in Manchester
Cristiano Ronaldo will return to former club Manchester United in the Champions League in March.

It was revealed to ESPN earlier in the week that Ronaldo, 27, would be open to the idea of a return to Old Trafford when his contract at Real finishes in 2015, a point when he is expected to leave the Bernabeu.

Sir Alex Ferguson has publicly spoken of his continuing admiration for the Portuguese superstar who he managed to great success between 2003 and 2009 but Gill has attempted to play down the talk ahead of the side’s meeting in the Champions League last 16 in February.

"He is a brilliant player but he is contracted for the next two-and-a-half years at Madrid,” Gill told Sky Sports News HD.

"We are looking forward to welcoming him back, he will get a great reception at Old Trafford in early March and that is all we have got to say."
