The Chicago Red Stars will have the first pick in the National Women's Soccer League college draft, the league announced Wednesday. The draft will be held at 9 a.m. ET Friday at the Indianapolis Convention Center.
The Red Stars pick will be followed by the Washington Spirit picking second, FC Kansas City third, New Jersey/New York Sky Blue FC fourth, Boston Breakers fifth, Western New York Flash sixth, Seattle Reign FC seventh and Portland Thorns FC eighth.
The draft will be four rounds with three minutes between selections in the first two rounds and five minutes between selections in the final two rounds.
The draft order was determined with assistance from a panel of experts, which looked at the strength of each club based on the players allocated from the USA, Canada and Mexican national teams last week, the league said in a news release.
U.S. Soccer is subsidizing the salaries of the American players. The Canadian Soccer Association and the Federation of Mexican Football will do the same for their players.
