Fiorentina agree deal for new stadium
Fiorentina have finally agreed a deal with the city council to build a new stadium for the club in the Mercafir area of Florence.
The Viola have been attempting to secure such a deal for over two years and have finally managed to acquire the relevant permission to get the go ahead for their project.
The club will own their own stadium and the adjoining business park - referred to as 'the citadel' by the designers - will also be owned by the club as the business model is said to be along the lines of that implemented by Juventus.
The Turin club are at present the only Serie A side to play in a stadium they own and a price of €150 million is reported as being the cost for Fiorentina to join them.
According to a statement released by the club on Monday a "non-Italian partnership" will contribute a significant portion of that cost and there will be many commercial facilities on site as well as a hotel, offices, houses and neighbourhood shops.
The City of Florence and the club will work closely in conjunction with each other for the duration of the project.
Fiorentina have played at their current home, the Stadio Artemio Franchi, since 1931.
