Forren set for Liverpool trial

Vegard Forren will travel to Liverpool for a week-long trial as the Reds look to secure a permanent deal for the Norwegian defender.

Vegard Forren: Norway international
Forren is hoping to impress Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers this week

Forren, 24, will begin training with Liverpool on Tuesday and manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that a deal can be agreed with the Molde centre-back if he impresses.

A medical is yet to be arranged for Forren, with Liverpool choosing to assess his fitness before making a decision and while a fee has not been agreed, it is believed the Reds would need to make an offer of £4 million.

Everton manager David Moyes watched Forren twice during November; once when Norway played Hungary in Budapest, and again when Molde faced FC Copenhagen in the Europa League.

Moyes has not followed up on his interest and it is believed the other two interested parties - Southampton and Reading - also dropping out of the race for Forren's signature.

Rodgers is keen to strengthen Liverpool’s defence in January and is ready to let Sebastian Coates leave on loan if a deal for Forren goes through.

The defender was one of the best performers in the Norwegian league last season and helped manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to win the Tippeligaen title while also making his international debut.

In November, when asked about a move to England and links with Everton, Forren said: "I cannot stand here and say that I'm not interested.

"After all, the Premier League is involved and Everton are a great club. I feel ready. I have had many great matches in the Europa League, in the league and with the national team.

"I have done well and it tempts me more and more to take the next step. I have developed myself a lot this year but right now my focus is on performing well."
