Taarabt aiming to save QPR

Adel Taarabt feels he can be the difference in Queens Park Rangers' fight for survival.

• Blog: Operation Shutout continues

QPR are currently five points from and safety and, despite claiming a creditable 0-0 draw against Tottenham on Saturday, lost a little more ground as Reading came from behind to beat West Brom while Southampton jumped out of the relegation zone after defeating Aston Villa.

Taarabt, however, told the Evening Standard that his creativity can be key in keeping QPR up.

"I can play a big part," he said. "I know people think I have a big head - I am not like this but I think I am an important player for this team, and if I have a good four months I think we can stay in the Premier League.

"I just play my natural game, the way I've done since I was young. I am the player who can score a goal and win the game for my team. Every time I'm on the pitch, I know I can make things happen.

"All the teams I play against now know how I play so I try to mix up my game. I play simple and, when they think I'm going to play simple, I surprise them and dribble and have a shot."

Taarabt also praised the influence of Redknapp, despite the manager selling him when he was at Tottenham. The attacker feels the current QPR boss has been responsible for an upturn in both the performances of the player and the club.

"Harry has something that not a lot of managers have - when you play for him, he makes you feel you're better than the opposition you're playing against. I said thank you to him [for selling him to QPR] because, since I've been here, this club have given a lot to me and I've had the best time in my career here.

"I was young [at Tottenham], I didn't speak the language. I was in the team sometimes, came off the bench or was just in the squad sometimes. It was a very difficult time for me."
