Adebayor to represent Togo

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed striker Emmanuel Adebayor will depart for the African Nations Cup this weekend.

• Group A: The hosts
• Group B: The stars
• Group C: The champions
• Group D: The favourites

It had been reported in L'Equipe that Adebayor had refused to play for his nation after the Togolese Football Federation changed coach Didier Six's tournament squad list.

However, speaking after Tottenham's 0-0 draw with QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday, Villas-Boas said the forward is set to leave for the tournament and is sure they will cope in his absence.

"We went through a period without Ade through injury and suspension and Clint (Dempsey) did extremely well with (Jermain) Defoe," he said.

Adebayor, 28, signed for Spurs on a permanent deal in the summer from Manchester City and has since scored three times for the club in all competitions.
