Newcastle eye Remy after QPR snub

Newcastle United may profit from QPR’s failure as Harry Redknapp revealed that Marseille striker Loic Remy wouldn’t even talk to him when the Loftus Road boss went to watch the player last week.

Loic Remy has turned his back on QPR

After the departure of Demba Ba, the St James' Park side are known to be interested in signing the French striker in order to enhance their depleted attack.

Remy himself, meanwhile, is more open to signing for a club of such status. Despite a long-standing relationship with Redknapp and an apparent willingness to join up with him at Tottenham, the forward had no interest in either speaking to the QPR boss or signing for a club in such a dire predicament.

"He didn’t want to come," Redknapp revealed. "I went over last week to watch him, not that I needed to, as I watched him seven times when I was at Spurs. Then just did not want to speak about coming.

"I couldn’t even get a meeting with him. I was hoping for a meeting with him to encourage him to come, and he wasn’t being disrespectful. People say he was being disrespectful and not talking to us but he was in a position where last year at Spurs he was interested and I got on well with him, and I think he felt embarrassed coming to see me to say he wasn’t interesting in coming to QPR.

"He just felt he was in a position he found difficult to handle. I have no problems with him."

Redknapp admitted that QPR’s situation has harmed their transfer activity.

"It doesn’t help. Players will look at that and if there are other clubs in England after them it can be difficult.

"[It looks like he will go to] Newcastle, but he’s talking about staying at Marseille. I like him. I’ve chased him for a long time and he isn’t playing there. He played in the cup last week, but he’s not playing. After that it’s hard to find strikers.

"If you look through the club, that is an area we are short, but how do you find them? This time of year, who is going to let people go, unless you are going to pay crazy money. They are looking everywhere but just can’t find them.

"It would have been good for him [Remy] to come, play in the Premier League, help us stay up. if he comes and does well, if the worst comes to the worst and we can’t survive, he is in the shop window and the big clubs would want him. if he does score the goals, there is every chance we would stay up. It was a good opportunity for him.

"He may change his mind, you never know. I wouldn’t write if off completely, but it will not be easy."

Redknapp, meanwhile, admitted that QPR have also looked into the possibility of signing controversial Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.

"We have made enquiries. I don’t know if he wants to come. I watched him a lot at Spurs. I know all about him. He has had a lot of problems, but he is a good player. And, as I say, they key is money and where the club is at the moment. They see you at the bottom and probably think, you know."

M'Vila has been involved in a string of disciplinary incidents in France. In more bad news for Redknapp, though, it appears that Newcastle are also interested in his signature.
