Fergie dismisses talk of imminent deals

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted there is “nothing to report” with regard to January signings.

Sir Alex Ferguson has always insisted the summer is the best time to do business

It has been claimed that Ferguson is looking to add to his squad, with United having been credited with an interest in Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, but club sources this week insisted there is no interest in the Chelsea duo.

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha appears a more realistic prospect, and the London Evening Standard reported on Thursday that the two clubs were close to agreeing a £12 million deal that would allow the England international to remain at Selhurst Park until the summer.

Ferguson, though, has always maintained that there is no value in the winter transfer window and he is adamant that there are no impending arrivals.

“There is nothing to report,” he told a press conference on Friday. “It is January. You (the media) are all getting a bit desperate. There is nothing to tell you.”
