Heart's Marrone to join Chinese club

Melbourne Heart defender Michael Marrone is set to leave the A-League club and sign to play in the Chinese Super League.

The Heart announced 25-year-old Marrone's planned move on Wednesday but declined to name the Chinese club involved.

An inaugural member of the Heart who has made 70 appearances for the club, Marrone will not play in Sunday's round-16 clash with Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium as he prepares to finalise his China deal.

"Michael has been presented with a great opportunity and the club will not stand in his way of chasing professional football in the highly-competitive Asian market," said Heart coach John Aloisi.

"Michael has always expressed his desire to play football overseas and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
