Man City return £62 Arsenal tickets

Manchester City have returned a third of their allocation of tickets for their Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday, after their supporters refused to pay the £62 ticket price at Emirates Stadium.

The English champions were given an allocation of 3,000 tickets, but 912 have been sent back and are being sold to Arsenal supporters, as the debate over the cost of attending games at Emirates Stadium continues to create headlines.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis came under fire from his own supporters last year as he was asked to justify the ticketing policy being employed by Arsenal and now City fans have joined the criticism ahead of Sunday's match.

"It just shows that football clubs are out of touch with reality," said Kevin Parker, the general secretary of the Manchester City Supporters Club in the Guardian.

"If City supporters are travelling on a supporters' club coach it will cost £30 per person. That's £92 before they have even done anything; add in a programme, food, drink and you are looking at £125-£130 per person.

"In 2009 a ticket to Arsenal was £32.50, so in under four years they have gone up by almost £30 and now they're the most expensive in English football. It seems a ridiculous amount of money.

"It's the most expensive amount I can ever remember paying for a ticket in my life, for a Sunday afternoon game which is live on television. To charge that amount when people can see it live on TV is crazy."

A survey carried out in October confirmed Arsenal have the most expensive adult match day ticket (£126) and season ticket (£1,955) in the Premier League. City have season tickets priced between £275 and £745.

Meanwhile, West Ham supporters hoping to attend the FA Cup third round replay against Manchester United at Old Trafford are being asked to pay more than doubt the ticket price United fans paid at Upton Park last Saturday.

Visiting supporters were charged just £20 to witness Robin van Persie rescue their side with a stunning late strike at Upton Park on Saturday, but Hammers followers are being asked to stump up £45 to watch the re-match.
