Moyes: No plans to sell Anichebe

David Moyes has dismissed suggestions that Everton striker Victor Anichebe will be sold to Reading during January.

Victor Anichebe made a positive impression against Cheltenham

Anichebe, 24, has scored twice in four Premier League appearances since returning to action after two months out with a thigh injury.

The Nigeria-born, Crosby-raised striker has hit five goals in 13 games this season, and set up two during Monday night’s 5-1 FA Cup third-round victory at Cheltenham.

Anichebe, who came through the youth ranks at Goodison Park, has struggled for fitness and confidence at various stages of his career, and has made only 44 Premier League starts since breaking into the first team in 2006.

Manager Moyes, though, has always backed the player, and insists he has a significant part to play in Everton’s future.

“Anichebe to Reading? No, no truth in that,” Moyes said. “We won’t be selling anyone if I have my way, that’s for sure. I thought Victor had a real go [against Cheltenham] and had some creative moments as well.”
