Central Coast Mariners talented goalkeeper Mathew Ryan is headed for Scotland to trial with Rangers Football Club, the former champions demoted to the bottom division as a punishment for insolvency.
The Mariners say Ryan is expected to miss just one A-League game, the round 16 showdown with Melbourne Victory in Launceston on January 12.
"I was in Scotland over Christmas, spoke with (Rangers manager) Ally McCoist about Mathew Ryan," Central Coast Mariners general manager of football, Lawrie McKinna said.
"It is a credit to Mat and to our club that Ally was well aware of Mat's ability and potential and immediately offered for him to join Rangers for a training spell.
"Mat is eager to take up the opportunity and we are sure he will learn a lot from the experience."
