Marseille play down Remy exit talk

Marseille have played down suggestions Loic Remy could leave the club, saying the France international striker is "1000%" their player, despite speculation he is close to a move to Newcastle United.

Newcaslte are reported to be keen on Loic Remy
Newcastle are said to be keen to sign Loic Remy as a replacement for Demba Ba

Remy, 26, has been the target of fervent transfer rumours in recent weeks, with Newcastle reported to have opened talks as they target a replacement for Demba Ba. However, OM sporting director Jose Anigo has insisted Remy will not be easily snatched away from the Stade Velodrome.

"He's here. He's training. He's 1000% an OM player," Anigo told the media on Thursday. "We're not talking about anything else. As things stand today, there is no offer."

Remy has struggled to find his best form this season, with injury and off-field problems limiting him to just a single goal and a bit-part role in OM's climb to third in the Ligue 1 table, but his price-tag has been suggested at anywhere between £10 million and £15 million.

With a sizeable portion of the £7 million sale of Ba to Chelsea reportedly going to the player and his representatives, Newcastle would need additional backing from owner Mike Ashley should they make an offer. Alan Pardew is hopeful the funds can be raised.

"Mike has been supportive, and he has to be even more supportive now,” he said, according to Sky Sports. "He has to find the extra money for a striker, as we're not going to get one in for the Ba money. There's always a player who can enhance a team and we wouldn't be competent if we didn't look to replace him, which we have. Hopefully we can get that one in.”
