No January move for Holtby

Schalke star Lewis Holtby, 22, will not leave the club during the winter transfer period, Schalke general manger Horst Heldt claimed.

Lewis Holtby could be dropped against Arsenal
Holtby, who has an English father, chose to represent Germany instead

“Right now there are no offers for Holtby,” Heldt told Sky. “And there are also no signals from his agent.”

In late December the club had announced that the Germany Under-21 captain will leave Schalke on a free transfer at the end of the season.

“We respect his decision. He is a good lad, who will give it all for Schalke until the end of his contract,” Heldt said.

After a great start to the season, Holtby's form dipped when his future at the club became increasingly doubtful. It has been speculated in the media that Holtby may even lose his place in newly-appointed Schalke boss Jens Keller's side altogether as the final month of his contract run down.

“Lewis is part of the team,” Keller said. “I won’t turn my back on him. He has shown what he can do. If he performs well he has the same chance as every other player in our squad.”
But Keller, who included 17-year-old Max Meyer in the training camp squad, added: “We must wait and see how Lewis copes with the pressure from the outside.

Keller added on Meyer's prospects: “We should not expect too much of him. But of course he has the chance to catch my attention in Qatar [at the club's training camp over the winter break].”

Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Steffen Freund said Holtby could end up signing a contract at White Hart Lane.

“By all means we are a club with great interest.” Freund told Sky.
