The keeper did not appear for the second half of Chelsea's 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday and he did not feature in Wednesday's 1-0 home defeat to QPR.

A scan on his groin which confirmed the 30-year-old will be out of action for three weeks.

In a club tweet, manager Rafa Benitez provided an update on his keeper, saying: "Two or three weeks. We are quite optimistic."

Ross Turnbull stepped in for Cech, making only his sixth Premier League appearance for the Blues on Wednesday.

He is likely to be in the side again for the FA Cup clash with Southampton, the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final with Swansea and Premier League matches with Stoke and Arsenal.
