Wellington Phoenix defender Manny Muscat faces a three-match A-League suspension for elbowing Brisbane Roar young gun Nick Fitzgerald.
The league's match review panel on Thursday charged Muscat with violent conduct over the incident late in the Phoenix's 2-1 loss to the Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday.
The pair clashed in the 74th minute and Muscat appeared to raise his elbow at Fitzgerald.
The ban means Muscat will miss the struggling Phoenix's matches against Melbourne Victory, Western Sydney and Sydney FC.
The Phoenix can appeal the decision but have already omitted Muscat from the squad to face the Victory at AAMI Park on Saturday.
