Ibra: Lucas will need time to adapt

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told new Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Lucas Moura to be patient as he settles into life in Europe but said he is not worried about the Brazilian.

• Blog: Moura makes grand entrance
• PSG not planning further signings

Lucas, 20, joined the PSG squad for the first time this week after completing his €40 million switch from Brazilian side Sao Paulo.

The attacking midfielder has already spoken of his belief he can strike up a good understanding with Ibrahimovic, 31, and may get a first opportunity to do so in Wednesday's friendly with Qatari side Lekhwiya.

However, drawing on his own experiences after leaving his native Sweden, Ibrahimovic advised the Brazil international not to rush his adaptation to life on the European side of the Atlantic.

"Lucas doesn't need me to adapt," the ex-Ajax striker told the press at PSG's winter training camp in Qatar. "He has the qualities to be able to play and shine in Europe. However, he'll have to adapt to his new life off the pitch, adapt to Paris, to the city. When I arrived in Amsterdam, it took me a year to feel at home there.

"A lot is expected of Lucas and he'll have to be patient, but I'm not worried about him. On the pitch, there will be no problem, and everyone will help him so that things turn out for the best."

Fears Lucas, who had not played since Sao Paulo's Copa Sudamericana triumph in early December, would be short of peak fitness were allayed in Tuesday's training session, his first with the PSG squad.

While coach Carlo Ancelotti suggested Lucas would play a part in the friendly in Qatar, it is likely the new arrival will make his competitive debut for PSG in Sunday evening's Coupe de France encounter with amateur side Arras.

"He'll bring something extra to the team," Ancelotti said. "He has a lot of qualities. We've seen some of his matches in Brazil. He's a top player and, technically, he's very good.

"He's had 20 days of holidays, but he's in good physical condition. He doesn't have a special training programme. He could play at any time."

Ibrahimovic added: "He's a fantastic player, very quick. I played against him when Sweden played Brazil. He has a very good profile, and will help the team a lot."
