Domingos believes Deportivo can beat drop

New Deportivo la Coruna manager Domingos Paciencia has targeted saving the Galician club from relegation from their position bottom of the table at the halfway point in the season.

The former Portugual international, who led Braga to second in the Portuguese league and the Europa League final in 2010, was brought in to take the reins following the sacking of Jose Luis Oltra at the weekend.

"It is important for Depor to stay in the Primera Division and for this we need the commitment of everyone," Domingos told a news conference. "It is a tough job but I like those, and it is for that reason I am here."

Domingos's most recent job was at Sporting Lisbon, who sacked him in February.

Depor president Cesar Augusto Lendoiro revealed that this was not the first time the club had tried to secure Domingos's services.

"We tried to sign him when he was a player with Porto but Tenerife beat us to his signature," he said. "We are convinced we will be able to save ourselves."

Domingos's first test in charge of a newly-promoted side who have won just two of their 17 league games so far this term will be the visit of Malaga on Saturday.
